NAWS Update 6/25/21

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Little White Book (LWB). Did you know that over the past 20 years, communities have been publishing local stories in the LWB, in accordance with the policy described in A Guide to World Services in NA? In addition to the eight stories in the English-language version, 85 more stories are published or forthcoming in 13 other language versions of the LWB. To celebrate the Little White Book’s diamond jubilee, we intend to collect all 93 of these stories in one special edition Little White Book.

The Fellowship Intellectual Property Trust allows the World Board to bundle, excerpt, and/or repackage NA literature as long as 120-day notice is provided. We have posted such a notice titled “June 2021 Notice for LWB” at www.na.org/fipt. Check it out, and while you are there, watch the FIPT video if you haven’t already.

Also, don’t forget that the last batch of review and input material for the Spiritual Principle a Day Project has been posted to www.na.org/spad. It’s taken a lot of hard work with the staff furloughs and the inability to meet in person for more than a year, but we are still on target to publish the approval draft in the 2022 Conference Agenda Report.

Unity Day this year will be 4 September. Flyers have been posted in English, Portuguese, and Spanish at www.na.org/nawsevents.

As always, let us know if you have any questions: wb@na.org

Yours in service,

World Board

NAWS Update 5/12/21

Hello,

Four deadlines are coming up at the end of May:

FIPT: Email input on the proposed revisions to the Fellowship Intellectual Property Trust, which is posted at www.na.org/fipt, to wb@na.org.

PR Survey: We posted this survey on behalf of outside researchers who are gathering data about members’ tools of recovery. This type of independent research can reach many professionals who refer addicts to our program. You can find the survey at www.na.org/survey or from the survey button on the NA Meeting Search app.

Virtual NA Meetings: Connecting to the Service System (Farsi linkPolish linkPortuguese linkSpanish link): Among other questions, this short survey asks if you believe that virtual meetings meet the criteria to be considered NA groups. Responses will help to frame a conversation for the next World Service Conference. You can find the survey at www.na.org/survey or from the survey button on the NA Meeting Search app.

SPAD: The penultimate batch of entries for the Spiritual Principle a Day Book Project awaits your input. You can find the entries and forms for input at www.na.org/spad. Review as many or as few as you want.

We welcome local resources about virtual meetings to post at www.na.org/virtual particularly resources for hybrid meetings and checklists for NA meetings considering reopening. Don’t forget to send input about the virtual meeting best practices outline posted on www.na.org/toolbox to toolbox@na.org.

Our efforts to support World Services’ efforts from member contributions rather than literature sales continues. Thank you to everyone who has contributed and is helping to spread the word. “We all have to pull together, and in pulling together we learn that we really are part of something greater than ourselves.” (“Tradition Seven,” Narcotics Anonymous).

Thank you for all you do for NA!

NAWS Updates 3/26/21

Hello!

We want to remind you about a couple of surveys we have posted at na.org/survey through the end of May. Please take the time to fill them out and tell your friends.

The Relative Role of Project Components in NA is a survey put together by researchers who believe in NA and have used research articles to highlight the program’s effectiveness to other professionals. This kind of cooperation helps addicts find Narcotics Anonymous.

Virtual NA Meetings: Connecting to the Service System (Spanish linkPolish link) is focused on how virtual meetings are connecting to the rest of the NA Fellowship, including NA service delivery. Among other questions, the survey asks if you believe that virtual meetings meet the criteria to be considered NA groups. Responses will help to frame a conversation for the next World Service Conference.

NAWS Report Video
We have also posted the video and PowerPoint from our NAWS Report webinar 21 March at na.org/media. The video is the second link on the video page. The PowerPoint is the first link on the FD resources page.

And don’t forget:

Service Day Web Meeting
We are holding a web meeting 1 May, which is Service Day, 11am-1pm, Pacific Daylight Time, on Fellowship Development around the world. You don’t want to miss this one. We will send a link when it’s closer to the day, and the link will be posted to na.org/webinar.

SPAD
The Spiritual Principle a Day Book Project has posted the last set of spiritual principles for members to write on, and the second-to-last set of entries to review and input at na.org/spad. Anyone can contribute to the project. NA literature is written by addicts like you.

Contribute
Thank you to everyone who has helped us reach a monthly total of more than $20,000 in recurring contributions. We still have a long way to go to meet our financial goals, but we appreciate every step in that direction. We have posted a QR code that points to na.org/contribute for groups to use on-screen if they wish. You can find it under the World Service Contributions heading of the On-Screen Resources section at na.org/virtual.

Thank you everyone for all you do for NA!

NAWS Announcements 3/9/21

Hello,

We have lots of news. This email covers:

Recovery Tools Survey

What recovery tools are important to you? We have posted a short survey put together by a couple of researchers with whom we have cooperated in the past: www.na.org/survey. Their aim is to publish an article for addiction professionals about what is important to members in recovery. As we have reported in the past, cooperating with these researchers has resulting in articles that help professionals to see Narcotics Anonymous as a viable program of recovery. Bear in mind as you take the survey that it was composed by outside researchers and not World Services. Many of the terms used in the survey are not defined or stated as we in NA would define them or say them. Perhaps the most glaring example of this is the definition of relapse. Please know the way this term is used reflects a perspective from the medical community and not NA World Services’ perspective or the understanding of NA as a whole.

The survey will be online through the end of May. We encourage you to share this survey with as many members as you can. We are a Fellowship centered in the therapeutic value of one addict helping another. The more members who fill out the survey, the more we can all learn what recovery tools have played an important role at various points in members’ recovery.

Local Service Toolbox Survey and Outline

We are taking the next steps for our project on virtual meetings: www.na.org/toolbox.

We posted an outline of virtual meetings’ best practices. As we receive input on the outline and more information from the Fellowship, we will post updated versions. Check it out, and let us know what you think: toolbox@na.org.

We are also collecting information through another short survey—this one is about how virtual meetings are connecting to the wider world of NA and NA service delivery. This is also the topic of this weekend’s webinar (see below). This topic is new to many of us. Sharing any experience you have is a service to NA as a whole.

One of the questions in the survey is whether you believe virtual meetings meet the criteria listed in The Group Booklet to be considered NA groups. The survey results will inform discussions on the issue at the next World Service Conference. Thank you in advance for filling out the survey and helping to spread the word.

See the report posted on the project page www.na.org/toolbox for more detail.

The webinars will also be livestreamed, and that link will be posted to the toolbox page a few minutes before the webinars begin: www.na.org/toolbox.

Virtual Meeting Form

You can find information for virtual meetings by entering web or phone as a country at the prompt on the meeting search tab at www.na.org/meetingsearch. We get that information from trusted servants, and now we have a form that is designed specifically for virtual meeting information. Find it from the link at the top of the Virtual NA Meeting Resources page: www.na.org/virtual

Service Day

Service Day is every year on 1 May. You can find a flyer at www.na.org/dates and www.na.org/nawsevents. We are planning a webinar 11am-1pm Service Day this year devoted to the gifts of NA service. A panel of members from around the world will share their experiences in all kinds of NA service, and there will be time to ask questions.

Have you seen the I SERVE pins? They are a pretty nifty gift for your favorite trusted servant. You can buy them at www.na.org/webstore.

13 March, 11am-1pm, Pacific Standard Time: How Do Virtual Meetings Connect to the Service System?

Many virtual meetings are trying to figure out how to connect with NA’s system of service delivery—how to map meetings, which may include members from all over the world, onto a service delivery system that is geographically organized. We will hear from a panel of members about how their meetings are handling the issue.

There will be time for members to ask questions via a text box. We only have the ability to respond to questions submitted in English during the webinars, but questions are always welcome at wb@na.org.

A livestream link will be posted at www.na.org/toolbox a few minutes before the webinar begins for those who would prefer to watch a livestream and not attend via Zoom. Note that you will not be able to ask questions or access the interpretation feeds from the livestream link.

The root cause of this was found to be related to our previous host not supporting the CMS that we were using, and required us to either upgrade, or to implement as cumbersome fix, since we are already migrating away from that platform, I suggest the Webservants from those area’s please contact regional IT to schedule migration to WordPress to restore their area websites.
